Storykeepers Explorers: Entertainment Before Movies and Television

One of the ways that Miss Jean entertained children (and adults) at the library in the 1940s and 50s was by showing her Benny Bunny stories, that she wrote and illustrated, using a machine called a Radiopticon, invented in Vermont in 1910, that would project postcards and pictures onto a wall/screen.  The library has obtained a Radiopticon, and will recreate the program that Miss Jean held, showing her Benny Bunny books.  Natalie will also provide a hands-on experience for participants where they can use the Radiopticon, as well as stereoscopes; a Crankie Box; and Viewmasters.
